Function
You support researchers with various aspects of data management in a high-tech environment and groundbreaking technology projects.
Researchers at Flanders Make analyze complex datasets, build predictive models, and develop data-driven prototypes for the factory of the future using digital twins, chatbots, and more. Exchanging (sensor) data from technological research projects opens the door to endless innovation opportunities. With your expertise, you solve complex data-related challenges and advise on the safest and most efficient solutions.
Secure Data Exchange and Storage
You are responsible for managing data and overseeing the data exchange process. Raising awareness and ensuring confidentiality and data security are key focus areas.
As a Data Steward, you will:
- Oversee the lifecycle of data, from creation to archiving or deletion;
- Balance cost, risks, and usability of different solutions;
- Provide practical and user-friendly solutions for internal stakeholders;
- Stay up to date with relevant legal frameworks (GDPR, AI Act, Data Act, NDA, etc.);
- Support researchers in identifying and mitigating data-related risks;
- Proactively develop plans to address recurring issues sustainably;
- Coordinate archiving and data-cleaning activities when necessary. Your data integration initiatives ensure consistency across different systems;
- Follow the latest trends in both academic research and commercially available solutions, selecting the newest tools to reinforce our organization's high-tech image.
You work closely with the Digital Transformation Lead, to whom you also report. Together, you drive the company-wide development, advisory, and implementation of policies and procedures related to data retention, management, and exchange methods.
You have the flexibility to choose your primary work location (flexible workplace policy).
Profile
Supporting Stakeholders with Responsibility and Impact
You have:
- A Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience after a relevant Bachelor’s degree (e.g., Multimedia and Creative Technology (MCT), Industrial or Business Sciences, etc.);
- Technical experience in setting up data connectivity and database access, for example, in the development of connected devices/plants;
- Familiarity with useful tools such as MS Azure (preferably in an Industrial Internet of Things context), Azure cost calculators, enterprise architecture tools, business process management tools, information modeling tools, and of course, MS Office applications.
You are:
- Excellent in both Dutch and English;
- Both creative in problem-solving and structured in execution;
- Empathetic and eager to learn;

- Strong in analytical thinking and accuracy;
- A fast learner when it comes to new tools;
